  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 pound fondant
  • Chocolate ganache for filling and frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, level the cakes if necessary and spread chocolate ganache between the layers.
  9. Cover the entire cake with chocolate ganache and then roll out the fondant to cover the cake smoothly.
  10. Decorate as desired for Valentine’s Day.
