  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • Red and pink food coloring
  • 1 cup frosting (your choice)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter into two bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl and pink food coloring to the other, mixing until the desired colors are achieved.
  8. Using a spoon, alternate dollops of the red and pink batter into the prepared cake pans, then use a knife to swirl the colors together.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, frost the cake with your choice of frosting and decorate as desired.
